Meet Rafia Qaseem Baig, The First Pakistani Woman To Join Bomb Disposal Unit


When a woman levels up to a man in some aspect or the other, it is indeed a great achievement for her she has something to feel PROUD about.


Same is the case with Pakistan’s Rafia Qaseem Baig(29), the first woman to join the Bomb Disposal Unit . She hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region and her entry is definitely an inspiration for several other women.

Her background!

She joined the police force 7 years ago as a constable and now, she has to complete her 15 day training at Nowshera’s school of Explosive Handling, along with 31 male guys, after which she will work in BDU. Her training would consist of learning various bombs, identifying them and ways to defuse them.

Her academics

Rafia completed master’s degree in International Relations, after which she pursued master’s. Then, she even worked at International Rescue Committee wherein, she started developing a passion for law. Currently, she is pursuing her LLB programme. Although she got a variety of jobs in non-government and government organizations, she preferred joining the police force of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa provice. When Rafia got appointed, she had to undergo training in red alert zones including Salman Khel, Adezai and Michni.
Not only that, Rafia was also part of an investigation team, which rescued Dr Intikhab Alam, who was abducted in 2010. She has joined the squad only for her passion and nothing else.
